Course Overview.
This course aims to equip students with the fundamental skills and techniques needed to work as an engineer in the field of sound reinforcement. Students will develop basic skills necessary to facilitate the set up and operation of a sound system including microphone technique, stagecraft, equalisation, mixing techniques and use of outboard effects and processing.
Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this course, students should be able to:
- Understand the fundamentals of sound theory and room acoustics
- Have a basic understanding of sound system set up, speaker management and the role of a systems engineer
- Effectively use microphone placement techniques for a range instruments and have an awareness of stagecraft and the roles of a stage technician
- Understand the operation of a mixing console, mixing techniques and the roles of a Front-Of-House engineer and Monitor engineer
- Apply equalisation for corrective and creative use
- Use a range of effects and processing units.
